Disco funk superstar Nile Rodgers popped into the Totally Sound 10th Birthday Concert on Saturday 22nd June at Summerhall to wish the project a Happy 10th Birthday. Whilst on tour in Britain with his band ‘Chic’ whose hits include ‘Le Freak’, ‘Good Times’, ‘Everybody Dance’ and ‘I Want Your Love’, Nile happened to be performing at Summerhall that evening and took the time to stop by and offer his support to the project. Most of the young performers were more familiar with his recent hit, ‘Get Lucky’, a collaboration with Daft Punk.
He arrived just as Totally Sound’s very own ‘The Smithereens’ were belting out their cover of ‘That’s Entertainment’ by ‘The Jam’. With camera in hand he joined the audience and cheered the band on, taking time to sample the atmosphere and snap a few photographs.
After popping into the backstage area to congratulate the band on their performance, Nile was introduced onstage to share a few words with the young performers and the audience. He congratulated the project on reaching it’s tenth anniversary and was full of praise for the young people and the tutors. His message to the project was to “keep doing what you’re doing!”
The young people were then invited onto the stage for a fantastic photo opportunity as Nile posed with the young performers infront of a sea of cameras and mobile phones.
