Collage of young people playing music and climate activism

Totally Sound and Reel Youth Media will be supporting the production of a remote video project featuring performers from across Edinburgh and beyond aged 19 and under to record and produce a cover version of the Ben E. King song ‘Stand By Me’.

This project is part of a UK wide competition taking place as part of the global Make Music Day celebrations which take place on 21st June. Last year our entry won this competition and was voted the best cover from across the UK. So we are now the defending champions…

In the run up to COP26 taking place in Scotland later this year, our version of this song will highlight issues surrounding the ongoing and evolving climate crisis and encourage young people to contribute to this theme by making their voices heard.

Musicians, singers and performers will be provided with backing tracks and (where appropriate) a written score for their parts and will be supported by tutors to learn and develop their performances. For the most part, these sessions will take place as part of Totally Sound’s Saturday afternoon virtual provision via Microsoft Teams.

The completed video piece will be premiered on YouTube and shared to our Facebook Event
